Made in the USA
January 25, 2021
For the past 2 years, I’ve been more aware of where the products that I buy have come from. Although, it seems difficult to avoid, I’ve been dismayed to receive products being made in China. If I continue to order things made in China, I feel that I am in support of the country of China and what they stand for. The other day I saw an old Hot Wheel car that I had as a kid growing up in the 80s. Imprinted on it was “made in the USA” with nice stainless steel backing on it. Boy, do I long for those days! Now these cars are made in China with cheap plastic with who knows what chemicals they put in it.
It would be nice if there was a bill signed that allowed everyone to know where products are made from especially when online shopping is needed. Also there should be no need for “designed in the USA, but made in China.” How about “made and designed in the USA” or “made and designed in China”? I know that I’ll be paying more for it but at least I would know what I am buying into.
In 2017, former President Trump signed a “Made in America” order. For the past 3+ years, some progress was made, but not much especially with the recent manufacturing of PPEs for COVID protection, a majority of which were made in China. As a result, China’s economy did a lot better than others during the pandemic year. Hopefully, this bill signed by President Biden today will make a difference. But I still want to know where my products that I am buying into is made from!
