What’s the most challenging part of being a periodontist?
Probably the most challenging part of being a periodontist is convincing someone they have a disease. It’s easy to communicate this with those that are being told by their dentist about it. Thank you to all the dentists who are aware of this!
Occasionally there will be patients that know they have a problem but will refuse to acknowledge they have a disease and don’t want to hear it. Unfortunately, these patients will then find themselves dentists or specialists who fit their needs and untruthfully tell them their condition just to satisfy them. It can be depressing for me to see this. I hope it does for you.
We’re always told to surround ourselves with positive people. Not so all the time…I believe there should be a mix of both worlds, positive and realistic. It’s the realistic part that can be hard to take, but it can be spun to make it positive in the end….
