8 foods good for teeth and gums
Well here’s a nice article taken from the Well + Good website titled “8 foods that are surprisingly great for your teeth and gums.” It shouldn’t be surprising because the main ones are fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately, there are those that still eat poorly especially it being Halloween yesterday and the upcoming holiday of Thanksgiving and Christmas won’t make things better. Anyways, here are the 8 it highlights:
1. Crunchy vegetables (just happened to have my share of crunchy vegetables. Credit to my wife because that’s what is included in her diet!) 2. Dairy Products: I avoid dairy milk and usually get almond milk which is low in fat. I also eat nonfat greek yogurt. I don’t get cheese a lot. If I do get it, I prefer cheddar due to its anti-cavity properties. 3. Nuts. Great food, but will wear down your teeth as you age and eat more of it. Its benefit may however outweigh it’s problems. Just be careful, I had a patient that cracked his tooth eating one. 4. Leafy vegetables. Yum, may stain your teeth, though. We’re talking about brown, mottled spots. 5. Onions and garlic. Yes, love them, makes me cry cutting them. 6. Shiitake mushroom. Great with soups, that’s all I got to say. 7. Salmon or anything rich in omega 3. Cods are good. 8. Strawberries and apples. This surprised me. They have malic acid which helps remove stains. Gonna have to try it for myself!
