What do healthy gums look like?

Notice the firmness of the tissue on the left versus the loose tissue on the right. Which would you like to have in your mouth???

I had a friend who liked to use the phrase “that’s hella tight” or “that’s sooo tight” to describe something AMAZING. Today, I’d use that phrase to describe healthy gums. This is different from what most would think. The color “pink” would come to mind when we describe healthy gums. But, according to studies, this is not the case and “pink gums” could also mean long standing inflammation.

So what do I see in healthy gums? Tight gums. In fact, “hella tight” or “sooo tight.” The difference is night and day. I’ll know it when I see it. In fact, with tight gums, I might see spacing under the contacts of the teeth. This might not look great. But consider, what works better for your health: loose tissue that bleeds easily (notice I didn’t mention about color) or healthy, tight tissue with no inflammation in sight. I’d rather have healthy gums any day.
