3/4 of countries report partial or complete disruption to oral health services.
February 6, 2021
As much as I’ve been really dismayed by the mismanagement of the World Health Organization especially this past year, this is something alarming that we, as dentist, should be mindful of. In fact, I believe that this will result in devastating effects of everyone’s oral health. We can all state that this is the reason why people should not be fearful of going to the dentist even in the middle of a pandemic and that their oral health is important. However, now as a patient, I would still be fearful of visiting a doctor or dental office because of the residual effects of catching this virus and unknowingly spreading it to a loved one. By the way, we still don’t know the long lasting effects of catching this virus and what it can do to your systemic health especially your heart, lungs, kidneys even if “I feel fine.”
This is the reason why, as the WHO is calling for us to do, it is important to move towards a “preventive promotional approach” for oral health. This starts now! More than ever, we need to be promoting cost effective ways of being able to maintain our teeth for the rest of our lives. Some of my colleagues would disagree with me on this, I believe that no one should be losing their teeth due to cavities and gum disease, which is the two biggest reasons as to why we lose our teeth. In fact, ideally, our goal should be to have perfect gum health, NO bleeding, NO inflammation. This can be achieved!
My website and blogs are written to encourage us to take our dental health seriously. It costs a lot of money to fix our dental problems. The root of the problem comes from how we are cleaning our teeth. This is why I would like to encourage you to consider signing up for my email list and viewing my introductory video where I outline the 4 major steps to cleaning your teeth.
